2021 COVID changes to WhistleStop
We are so excited to offer the Memorial Medical Center WhistleStop Marathon and Half-Marathon in person this year!
This year due to COVID-19 we will be capping our races, so if you are interested REGISTER NOW, don’t delay.
400 Full Marathon and 1400 Half-Marathon.
Due to Covid -19 we are making some changes to the 2021 event.
There are several factors involved that led us to make these difficult decisions for this year’s Memorial Medical Center WhistleStop Marathon and Half Marathon.
We will be capping both the races this year so Register Early!! It saves you money and it saves you any stress about not having a spot.
Folks that deferred your entry in 2020 to 2021, must register by May 31, 2021.
Packet Pick-Up for the Full and Half-Marathon will be held at the Bretting Community Center, located just west of the Bay Area Civic Center.
There will be NO Pasta Feed this year, however, many of our restaurants will offer a carbo-loaded entrée Friday for runners!! And, this is Wisconsin… We have multiple drinking establishments to quench your thirst and calm your nerves before the big race – most are located on Main Street -And!!! We are offering 5 free registrations to the 2022 WhistleStop just by eating locally in Ashland. You simply email a picture of your receipt from a locally owned restaurant to firstname.lastname@example.org and you could win 1 of 5 registrations to 2022.
There will be no awards ceremony this year. Awards this year will be mailed to our top three overall male and female winners! We are personalizing a beautiful running shirt with the place on the sleeve for our overall winners. Age Class awards will be mailed as well – However, if you know for sure you won an age class, we are happy to give them to you that day!
Buses will run this year to all of the races. However, we encourage you to carpool with your social circle to the start lines designated parking areas. this is only if you have someone that is not participating driving and dropping you off. There is not a bus that goes back to these parking areas after the race.
The Brews and Blues is the other area that we had to ixnay for this year. You’ll find several fun places on Main Street that offer live music or DJ – We will provide you with a list of eating and entertainment establishment for after the race!! We are fortunate that Ashland is a small town, and our Main Street is located just one block from the finishline. We are encouraging everyone to celebrate on Main Street after the race!! We will NOT have the large heated tent this year.
Reminder: We will be capping both the races this year so Register Early!! It saves you money and it saves you any stress about not having a spot.
Also since we will be capping the 2021 Memorial Medical Center WhistleStop Marathon & Half-Marathon, please share this registration link https://register.chronotrack.com/r/58800 with your friends and family and encourage them to register NOW! We don’t want them to wait and miss out on running with you!
We are also offering a virtual option this year. There are some things you need to know about the virtual race so here is a link.
We want to respect all of our runners and all of our volunteers and will try and do the best job we can to eliminate larger indoor gatherings including tent gatherings. Also, please, please, please, please, we do not allow walking the full marathon. You are welcome to walk the half marathon. Our volunteers have to be out before the race in order to set up and some leapfrog from one area to another. Please respect the fact that these people are out on the course in the chilly autumn air all day and need to warm up!! Also, Medical Personnel are pulled from the course at 6 hours or 3pm, so there isn’t support on the course. You must be able to run a consistent 13-minute mile for the Full Marathon. Thanks so much for your understanding and cooperation!!
For those of you that deferred your 2020 registration to 2021, if you did not receive your coupon code via email, please email email@example.com for your coupon code.
COVID 19 procedures for 2021
Masks & Face Coverings – All participants, volunteers, staff, and others present will be required to wear a mask or face covering at all times other than while actively participating in a race. This includes but is not limited to on the bus, in the start corral, and after crossing the finish line.
The status of the 2021 MMC WhistleStop weekend is subject to change at any time. We realize that the COVID-19 pandemic is a dynamic situation, and we will continue to monitor all updates from the Wisconsin Department of Health and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control). If the status of the event changes, we will notify participants via email as soon as possible.
If COVID-19 conditions don’t improve and the in-person marathon/half-marathon weekend races are cancelled, registrations for those who registered for the in-person races will automatically be converted to the virtual races and details for reporting finishing times will be emailed to participants. If at that time you choose not to participate in the virtual, we will refund you 50% of your race registration fee. We will not defer registrants to 2022.
Hope to see you in October!
